Data Management Plan Database

A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP. 

Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

McMaster University
This data management plan template is designed to facilitate group collaboration among a diverse range of stakeholders, including artists, researchers, research participants, social service workers, community organizers, and community workers. It is intentionally crafted in plain language to facilitate accessibility and understanding for all parties involved. Additionally, it frames the process as conversation as opposed to a more traditional form, fostering relational approaches to interdisciplinary collaboration.
Newcastle University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will collect data on "audio-recordings of conversations during workshops", observational notes, summary of main points, and videos generated by study participants to answer the research question.
Innovative Medicines Initiative

This DMP was created for the ConcePTION project, which aims to create an ecosystem that will collect information regarding the effects of medications used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The DMP will outline the collection of healthcare data, surveillance data, research data, pharmacovigilance data, human reported data, human milk and blood samples,  animal milk and blood data, and human cells.

Toronto Metropolitan University
This DMP aims to collect press reports, box office records, films, interviews, and MAXQDA files. The goal of the project is to study cultural diversity in film festivals.

This example data management plan from the Alliance intended to analyze the availability and usage of affordable rental housing. The project requires the collection of various forms of numeric, audio-visual and text-based data collected from a variety of sources such as surveys, focus groups etc.

This DMP describes a plan for a study to collect data from academic profile websites--Google Scholar, Citations, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and ORCID--to understand the presence of librarian researchers on those platforms. Data collected for analysis includes textual and numerical data across different platforms and translated in to SPSS for analysis.

This sample data management plan from the Alliance aims to create a comprehensive digital database of women's contributions to print culture from 1750 to 1830. It uses data collected from a variety of digital databases and print bibliographies and uses a metadata schema developed by the authors.

Their DMP is an excellent example of an in-depth process-based DMP that outlines governance, organization, documentation, and storage for all data types, and sharing and access (including how requests should be made).

This DMP aims to collect questionnaires, personal data, computer-based tasks & output, ECG’s, EDA’s, videos, audio recordings, data analysis files, linkage data, interviews, and transcripts. This data will be used for the Promoting Healthy Families project, which will assess whether Triple P and COSP can help promote healthy family relationships.

This DMP was created for the design and validation of an experimental tool that will study the effects of grammatical complexity and verb frequency in the learning of the English language. The DMP will outline the collection of speech data, audio recordings, and questionnaires.
