Data Management Plan Database

A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP.

Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

This DMP will collect genomic, phenomic, and bioinformatic data through observational and experimental methods in order to characterize the genetic trait profile of roots.
Caribou Biofuels, Inc; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data on the types of municipal waste generated at a University in New York and the amount of energy generated when that waste is processed through a gasifier.
Christopher Newport University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will generate draft papers, software prototypes, configurational files, and other computational applications to improve cryptographic software fingerprinting.
University of Virginia; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data in the form of various file-types in order to identify areas of poor civic infrastructure and build community partnerships to address them.
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect an array of experimental data ranging from spectral data to fluorescence lifetime data in order to evaluate various solar energy innovations.
DTU Aqua
This DMP was created for the SEAwise project, which aims to allow an easy application of Ecosystem Based Fisheries Management (EBFM). The collected will include experiment and survey data, codes, publications, interviews, recordings, workshops, and logbook data.
UC San Diego; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This is a sample data management plan from UC San Diego which details a proposal to conduct research intended to improve hospital functions.
Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK)
This DMP was created for the SIMPATICO project, which aims to use information technology to improve the experience of citizens and companies in their daily interactions with the public administration. The datasets that will be collected include logging/feedback, citizenpedia, and citizen personal data.
University of California, Santa Cruz; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data on geophysical, pedological, and hydrological data to characterize "water storage and flow path behavior in the subsurface environments of two headwater catchments in the Appalachian Mountains (Western Carolina Hydrologic Research Station) and Piedmont (Duke Forest Research Watershed).
RINA-C; University of Vienna (PHAIDRA)
This DMP was created for the SunHorizon project, which aims to create sun coupled innovative heat pumps. The data collected includes experimental data, observational data, simulation data, and derived data.
UC San Diego; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This is a data management plan from UC San Diego which discusses the collection and analysis of data on plant ecosystems to study the response to a change in rainfall patterns.
Weill Cornell Medicine; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect wet-lab data in order to evaluate the role of a protein on lipid and glucose homeostasis in obesity-induced hepatic activation.
Universitat Politecnica de Valencia; LIBER
This is a data management plan from LIBER for the TWEETHER initiative which intends to develop capacity and coverage for a w-band wireless system.
University College Dublin; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will collect data from social media as well as interviews to investigate how "users leverage social media to influence public and social policy."
East Carolina University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP details how an unmanned glider will collect data on sound-making species and oceanic variables to ascertain which areas should be protected fishing areas and avoided for the development of wave and wind energy.
CEA; University of Vienna (PHAIDRA)
This DMP was created for the VESSEDIA project which aims to bring safety and security to software applications and devices. The DMP will outline the collection of various tools such as software tools, documentation tools, and modeling tools.
Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will collect different wavelengths of light to analyze star formation regions in the Milky Way.
Delft University of Technology; LIBER
This data management plan from LIBER aims to develop a plan to manage data for a project that intends to develop methods and technologies for "redesigning the value and supply chain of water and minerals."
