Data Management Plan Database

A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP.

Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

USDA; National Agricultural Library
This DMP is an annotated example provided by the National Agriculture Library.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data in order "to develop a system to detect clouds in real time with high accuracy by implementing an intelligent low-cost Cloud Motion Vector System (CMVS) design."
University of Southern California; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP attempts to redevelop a methodology of measuring Fe(II) in ocean seawater columns to create a better estimate of its concentration.
University of Maryland, College Park; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP highlights how a Digital Curation Innovation Center will manage its data.
University of Kansas; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP outlines the steps that will be taken when digitizing herbarium samples include images of herbarium specimens, specimen data, georeferenced data, programming, and more.
Georgia State University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to conduct secondary health data analysis including survey and electronic health records to assess substance use amongst women stratified by sexual orientation.
University of Alabama; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data from public records and judicial proceedings to investigate and better understand the litigation process.
University of Notre Dame; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP articulates the RDM procedures that will be undertaken for a FAIR Hackathon Workshop.
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data on fish grazing intensity and algal biomass on water temperature and population control of primary producers.
University of California, Irvine; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect qualitative and quantitative survey information to improve DMPs and make them more actionable.
New Jersey Institute of Technology
This DMP aims to collect mathematical model data, code, experimental data, and numerical simulation data. The project itself intends to create a cross-disciplinary training program based on the relationship between mathematics and biology.
Louisiana State University; Open Anthropology Research Repository
This DMP aims to collect coastal hazard data, GIS shape files and data, social-economic data, and demographic data. This data will be used for investigating population changes in a vulnerable coastal environment.
National Institute on Aging (NIA); Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This is a DMP for a hypothetical drug discovery including intellectual property using mice: chemical structures, workflows, medicinal and analytical chemistry, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and PET imaging. Data and protocols are proposed to be shared in PubChem and AD Knowledge Portal.
DePauw University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will collect data from surveys that high school students in King County Schools fill out in order to understand drug use among this population.
Johns Hopkins University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data on viruses and viral infections in the ocean to better understand which bacteria viruses infect. To do this, the researchers are developing a "high-throughput technique to identify cultures in the environment."
RTI International
This DMP aims to collect geographic data, survey data, statistics, microdata, and code.
Harvard University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will work to create DMP example policies, technical infrastructure, and examples that that are in line with the FAIR data guidelines.
