Data Management Plan Database
A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP.
Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

This DMP aims to collect data on the supply and demand for additive manufacturing spare parts in order to optimize the supply chain network.
This data management plan from the University of Glasgow aims to build two online atlases of Scots syntactic features with a "Google Maps" style interface with audio recordings and geospatial, sociological and biographical material.
This project aims to ascertain whether "four approaches" can "improve the education and degree completion of low-income students at public STEM-focused Hispanic serving institutions."
This DMP outlines a plan for experimental testing, characterization, and simulation data for experiments with nickel-titanium shape memory alloys using a laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing process. This includes thermal and precipitates evolution physics based modelling.
This DMP will collect data from surveys "to understand the relationship between traveler behavior, mobility choices, and attitudes and values."
This is an example data management plan from the Alliance which intends to study the historical and cultural influence of Belgian and French immigrants to the Canadian Prairies. The data collected for analysis include text-based, image and geographical data.
This DMP aims to collect data to understand "educational actors cooperate or compete around the definition of knowledge that is worthy of circulation in an education dialogue."
This sample data management plan from the Alliance aims to create a comprehensive digital database of women's contributions to print culture from 1750 to 1830. It uses data collected from a variety of digital databases and print bibliographies and uses a metadata schema developed by the authors.
This is an example data management plan from the Alliance which describes a fictional research project which involves the collection of soundscapes from monasteries. The fictional researcher intends to collect audio data (WAV files) in order to facilitate analysis.
This DMP aims to collect data in order "to develop a system to detect clouds in real time with high accuracy by implementing an intelligent low-cost Cloud Motion Vector System (CMVS) design."
This DMP aims to collect data from public records and judicial proceedings to investigate and better understand the litigation process.
This DMP will collect qualitative and quantitative information on cognitive, affective, and developmental data of human subjects to ascertain the impact financial constraints have on the academic performance of University students.
This DMP example depicts a poor DMP and has associated comments explaining what makes it "bad" and how it can be improved.
This DMP aims to collect spectral radiance data from various illumination sources to create a field spectroscopy database.
This project will collect data from 60 interviews with Engineering Faculty to determine what assumptions they hold about students.
This is a data management plan from LIBER regarding the IPER-MAN project which intends to study sources of noise in aeroacoustics to design and prototype wind tunnel inserts.
