Data Management Plan Database

A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP.

Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

McMaster University
This DMP aims to collect info data, raw data, processed data, analyzed data, and report data. The goal of the project is to build a research and technology center to develop high-performance methods for biosensing and bioimaging.
N/A
This DMP aims to collect audio data from stationary recorders and audio logger data. This data will be used in the efforts of studying the disturbance on barren-ground caribou with a two-pronged acoustic monitoring approach.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric data only. The aim of the project is to investigate 4 fertilizer placements used by strip-tillers.
University of Saskatchewan; Digital Research Alliance of Canada
This is a template DMP for research project utilizing technology and/or software for application in healthcare and medicine.
University of Alberta; Digital Research Alliance of Canada

This is a template DMP for mixed-methods research where data is obtained from surveys and qualitative interviews/focus groups.

University of Calgary; Digital Research Alliance of Canada

This is a template DMP for use in systematic review projects in any field.

University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric field data to be used to diversify and enhance The University of Guelph’s soybean breeding.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric data to determine if intervention with a NSAID upon an alert on an automatic feeder can improve calf behavior, glucose status, and performance.
Fanshawe College
This DMP aims to collect textual information from articles found amongst seven research databases. This data will be used to explore the communication and correspondence between family caregivers and healthcare providers within long-term care.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. This data is mainly numerical and includes soil structural properties, crop measurements, and general site information. Data collected will be used in the study of no-till corn and soybean production in high-residue environments via improved planter components.
Dalhousie University
This DMP aims to collect textual data including student responses, discussions, student performance statistics, circular materials, and other information. This data will be used to investigate collaborative discourse during the learning of procedural programming with the benefit of the online tool YellowDig.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric data to  improve the productivity and profitability of Ontario garlic sector.
McMaster University
This DMP aims to collect survey data, assessment data, interview data, audio recordings, transcriptions, document drafts, and data tables. This data will be used to create a set of design principles to empower university-level instructors to either incorporate generative AI tool use in assessments or to limit the impact of generative AI on the integrity of assessments.
Dalhousie University
This DMP aims to collect textual data including student responses, student performance statistics, code, circular materials, and other information. This data will be used to understand the use of visual representations for instructional purposes with intelligent programming tutors.
University of Alberta; Digital Research Alliance of Canada

This is a DMP example for a fictional research study that will use a mixed-methods approach to collect participant data from interviews, surveys, and focus groups. This example uses the new Alliance Simplified Template (Funding Application Stage) which focuses on 5 questions that are helpful for a DMP that meets new Tri-Agency requirements.

University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect DNA sequences acquired from MiSeq analysis of soil metagenomic DNA. This data will be used to investigate approaches for assessing biological indicators of soil health.
ONFARM Consortium
This DMP was curated for the ONFARM project in aid of dealing with their soil health data, and their water quality/quantity data.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric data on tomato characteristics to study how to increase diversity in processing tomato breeding lines in Ontario.
Dalhousie University
This DMP aims to collect textual data including student responses, student performance statistics, code, circular materials, and other information. This data will be used to investigate program comprehension during learning.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric data, and drone images/video footage. This data will be used to advance integrated management tools for minimizing disease loss from tar spots on corn.
University of Ottawa; Digital Research Alliance of Canada
This DMP aims to collect and provide empirical evidence for the impact of data usage, data citation, and use of datasets on academic communication.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric, text, images, and lab data to aid in the efforts of providing practical and effective prudent antimicrobial use guidelines for Ontario cow-calf operations.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric data from lab info, treatment info, surveys, and questionnaires. This data will be used to understand the transmission of Salmonella Dublin within dairy and veal farms in order to control it better.
University of Waterloo
This is an interdisciplinary DMP template created by the University of Waterloo.
University of Guelph
This DMP aims to collect numeric data only, consisting of things like weed control, crop injury, crop dry weight, and crop yield. The goal of the project is to examine various herbicide tolerances of several vegetable crops.
