Data Management Plan Database

A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP.

Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

Digital Research Alliance of Canada; University of Waterloo

This DMP example uses a case study of relativistic astrophysics and gravitational physics data to show how management strategies can support computational reproducibility in High-Performance Computing. Data are the inputs and outputs of the numerical simulation model.

Digital Research Alliance of Canada; University of Waterloo

This is a data management plan example created by the Ecohydrology Research Group at the University of Waterloo. It presents a sample DMP for research work within the field involving laboratory, chemical, biological and numerical data.

Digital Research Alliance of Canada; Western University; Queen's University

This is an example data management plan from the Alliance which aims to create a database of digital products from the Canadian Census of Population. The database includes text base data collected from Statistics Canada.

Digital Research Alliance of Canada; Cape Breton University

This example data management plan from the Alliance intended to analyze the availability and usage of affordable rental housing. The project requires the collection of various forms of numeric, audio-visual and text-based data collected from a variety of sources such as surveys, focus groups etc.

Digital Research Alliance of Canada; University of Saskatchewan

This DMP describes a plan for a study to collect data from academic profile websites--Google Scholar, Citations, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and ORCID--to understand the presence of librarian researchers on those platforms. Data collected for analysis includes textual and numerical data across different platforms and translated in to SPSS for analysis.

HarassMap (EGY)

This DMP will collect data on reports and incidences of sexual harassment in Egypt via crowdsourced reports, traditional field data, and social media conversations to develop a map documenting locations and instances of sexual harassment.

University of New Brunswick
This is a template DMP for use in projects that combine scientific methods with computer simulations/modelling to study molecular interactions.
University of Ottawa; CAU Kiel University
This is a template DMP for mixed social sciences research projects that adopt an open scholarship workflow and produce both qualitative and quantitative datasets.
University of Waterloo; McMaster University; The Gordon Foundation; University of Saskatchewan; Wilfrid Laurier University
This is a template DMP for oceanographic research to generate water quality data.
University of Waterloo
This DMP aims to collect photographs, Raman data, and lab data to develop new and efficient techniques for synthesizing two-dimensional perovskites at lower temperatures.
Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)

This is a sample data management plan created by the ICPRSR, intended to be edited and customized by the user. It is a general data management template with basic information filled in to give researchers an idea of where to start.

University of New Hampshire

This DMP collects data from interviews to better understand the "approaches and challenges associated with teaching data …" particularly quantitative data in the social sciences to undergraduate students.

University of Pennsylvania; Georgetown University

This DMP will collect data from semi-structured interviews to understand the factors that influence one's perception of their deservingness to claim benefits.
