Data Management Plan Database

A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP. 

Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

This DMP aims to collect demographic, diagnoses, quantitative, and textual data in the aim to potentially provide international evidence about the vulnerabilities of individuals with PAE/FASD.

Additionally, it frames the process as conversation as opposed to a more traditional form, fostering relational approaches to interdisciplinary collaboration.

This DMP aims to collect press reports, box office records, films, interviews, and MAXQDA files. The goal of the project is to study cultural diversity in film festivals.
Natural Justice; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect data on Indigenous experiences with climate change and the licensing behind data produced by these communities.
Digital Research Alliance of Canada; Western University, Queen's University
This is an example data management plan from the Alliance which aims to create a database of digital products from the Canadian Census of Population. The database includes text base data collected from Statistics Canada.
Digital Research Alliance of Canada; Cape Breton University

This example data management plan from the Alliance intended to analyze the availability and usage of affordable rental housing. The project requires the collection of various forms of numeric, audio-visual and text-based data collected from a variety of sources such as surveys, focus groups etc.

University of Edinburgh
This DMP aims to collect questionnaire data that will be analyzed. This data is collected in the effort to recognize the University of Edinburgh’s past of enslavement and colonialism, while also providing a vision for institutional and cultural development in the future.
Bangor University
This DMP aims to collect  demographic data, numeric data, and raw and standardized score measurements. This data will aid with investigating the combined effectiveness of language and literacy interventions on reading outcomes in primary school children.
Durham University
This DMP aims to take a qualitative approach through the use of research interviews and solicited diaries. The data mentioned above will be used to investigate the manner in which LGBTQ language instructors navigate across the highly complex environment of Vietnamese language education.
University of Nottingham
This DMP aims to collect survey data that will be used to provide the information needed to further inform and address food insecurity in Nottinghamshire.
McMaster University
This DMP aims to collect survey data, assessment data, interview data, audio recordings, transcriptions, document drafts, and data tables. This data will be used to create a set of design principles to empower university-level instructors to either incorporate generative AI tool use in assessments or to limit the impact of generative AI on the integrity of assessments.
Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will use information from police incident and investigation reports from 5 different jurisdictions in America to investigate the impact 25 specific demographic factors have on how a case is sentenced or whether it is charged.
