Data Management Plan Database

A Data Management Plan (DMP) describes how you will manage, store, secure, document, and share research data. DMPs can vary broadly across disciplines, methodologies, and data types. DMPs are a growing requirement for grants, and can also guide data practices for individuals and teams. DMP Assistant is a free webtool that guides you through drafting your DMP and the easiest way to start building a DMP.

Our database gathers examples from across the world including DMPs from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Qualitative DMP Competition, DataOne, Digital Curation Centre, Liber, the Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance, and UC San Diego Research Data Curation into one searchable, open-access platform.

Newcastle University
This DMP predicts to collect spectrograms, and formant frequencies. This data will be used in the aim to understand how singers’ accent and pronunciation contributes to the ways their music is received and understood.
Alaska Regional Office (AKRO); NOA Fisheries
This DMP was created for the Blend System, which aims to provide a comprehensive accounting of groundfish catch. The project collects digital numeric data, imagery, photographs, video, audio, database, and tabular data.
McMaster University
This data management plan template is designed to facilitate group collaboration among a diverse range of stakeholders, including artists, researchers, research participants, social service workers, community organizers, and community workers. It is intentionally crafted in plain language to facilitate accessibility and understanding for all parties involved. Additionally, it frames the process as conversation as opposed to a more traditional form, fostering relational approaches to interdisciplinary collaboration.
Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF)
This DMP was created for the audioCommons project, which aims to create an ecosystem for reuse of audio content, to encourage creativity and innovation.
CRACKER Consortium
This DMP was created in accordance with the project CRACKER, which aims to “crack the language barrier”. The DMP outlines the collection of various forms of data including, text, audio, video, machine-readable dictionaries, terminological resources, and computational grammars.
California Ocean Science Trust
This DMP was created for California’s Statewide MPA Monitoring Program, collecting four levels of data. Data types include ecological data, fisheries landings data, environmental data, field and measurements.
Digital Research Alliance of Canada; University of Waterloo

This DMP example show uses a case study of relativistic astrophysics and gravitational physics data to show how management strategies can support computational reproducibility in High-Performance Computing. Data are the inputs and outputs of the numerical simulation model.

Digital Research Alliance of Canada; University of Saskatchewan
This DMP describes a plan for a study to collect data from academic profile websites--Google Scholar, Citations, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and ORCID--to understand the presence of librarian researchers on those platforms. Data collected for analysis includes textual and numerical data across different platforms and translated in to SPSS for analysis.
Digital Research Alliance of Canada; Simon Fraser University
This sample data management plan from the Alliance aims to create a comprehensive digital database of women's contributions to print culture from 1750 to 1830. It uses data collected from a variety of digital databases and print bibliographies and uses a metadata schema developed by the authors.
Digital Research Alliance of Canada; Université de Montréal
This is an example data management plan from the Alliance which describes a fictional research project which involves the collection of soundscapes from monasteries. The fictional researcher intends to collect audio data (WAV files) in order to facilitate analysis.
University of Alberta; Digital Research Alliance of Canada
This is a template DMP for arts-based research intending for projects that will utilize artistic research methods.
Cégep de Sherbrooke; Digital Research Alliance of Canada

This DMP aims to collect digital, tabular, and graphic data on plastic production parameters, environmental conditions, and inspectional measures among other factors to optimize the industrial extrusion process.

Enedis
This DMP was created for the InterFlex project, which aims to look at ways to adapt and modernize the electric distribution system. The DMP will outline the collection of documents, financial data, facility data, network data, and customer data.
Temple University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect audio recordings, surveys, and observations to revitalize and endangered language.
Montreal Neurological Institute

This DMP aims to collect reaction time, choice, and eye-tracking data which will be used for a mock behavioral and eye-tracking project.

Portland State University; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP aims to collect linguistic and developmental data to determine how phonological learning and bilingualism impacts development.
Loughborough University
This DMP aims to collect qualitative interview data, which will be used in the efforts of validating and exploring more about a literature review on the integration of sustainability into graphic design pedagogy in UK higher education.
University of Oregon; Qualitative Data Management Plan (DMP) Competition
This DMP aims to digitize data and create a database of semantics, lexicon, and morphemes to preserve the Nuu-wee-ya' language.
Botanic Garden Meise; Research Institute for Nature and Forest
This DMP was created for the TrIAS Project, which aims to formulate better predictions of the risks posed by alien invasive species in Belgium. It aims to collect observational data, checklists, climate data, assessment data, and code.
University of Arizona; Working Group on NIH DMSP Guidance
This DMP will use longitudinal speech data of cancer survivors from another study to develop a Machine Learning model that can increase participant compliance with health lifestyle habits.
