Rapid Access Services and Resource Allocation Competition (RAC)
The Digital Research Alliance of Canada (formerly Compute Canada) provides a broad spectrum of advanced computing services to support Canadian researchers, including technical support, training, and resource allocation. The Alliance’s Rapid Access Service grants all researchers access to storage and cloud resources. If you need a bit more, the Alliance just launched its annual Resource Allocation Competition (RAC).
There are two competitions: Resources for Research Groups, for projects whose primary purpose is to conduct research requiring compute, storage, and cloud resources to meet their goals, and Research Platforms and Portals, for projects whose primary purpose is to provide services that improve access to shared datasets, enhance existing online research tools and facilities, or advance national or international research collaborations.

Because McMaster is an Alliance member, this competition is open to all faculty members. Submit your application electronically through the CCBD by Wednesday, November 2nd. SHARCNET’s IntroARC Training Course
The Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network (SHARCNET) is a consortium of Ontario academic institutions providing a range of high-performance computers and software to support researchers. SHARCNET has launched a new training course – Introduction to Advanced Research Computing (ARC). The course consists of a series of independent, self-contained modules covering a range of topics related to ARC. If you’re curious about ARC, this is a great place to start! SHARCNET works with researchers from all faculties.

Research Data Management Services
Research data management (RDM) is the active organization and maintenance of data throughout its life cycle. Jointly sponsored by the McMaster University Library and RHPCS, McMaster’s RDM Services provide resources and personal support to researchers on campus, assisting them with a variety of RDM processes, including data security, data management planning, data organization, data storage, data deposit and more.
RDM Services and the Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship are hosting a series of workshops this fall and into 2023. Best Practices for Managing Data in Your Research is taking place Wednesday October 26th and will review best practices for data planning, storage, organization, preservation, and sharing.

Information Session: App, Software and Technology Research
Join the McMaster Industry Liaison Office (MILO) on Thursday October 20th for an information session about important security, intellectual property and commercialization considerations for research involving technologies such as applications, algorithms, and software.
